This carpenter's box is so funky.... with its unusual proportions and added embellishments. The two useless, decorative knobs added to the front face, give the suggestion of a pair of eyes. They almost wink at us in an irresistable invitation to lift the lid. Then, there are the oversized, Eastlake, dangley handles and chunky bun feet, that all add up to a playful personality.
Once the risk is taken and any old box opened, it sometimes reveals old papers, treasures, souvenirs and who-knows-what. But antique boxes are never empty. There is always the lingering scent of contents past and little hintings of secrets. I think that, just maybe, Pandora knew what she was doing.
